Going, going, GONE.

In a little over 6 hours, I'll be on my way to Fayetteville, WV and the Gauley River. A day of whitewater rafting, and two nights of camping. The best part.... I'm getting college credit for it.

So, I'll be completely out of contact with the rest of the world until Sunday evening.

Polka-dotted Duc

So, I was sitting at a friend's place, royally pissed off, which is a pretty rare occurrence. Then a friend came over with fencing equipment. What better way to release aggression than swordfighting? I can't think of one either. He's had about two months experience, I've had none. We were switching back and forth between foil, rapier, and dagger. I held my own far better than I expected to, I'd call it pretty near even.

New hobby maybe?

And since the only protective gear we bothered with were masks, and the blade tips, I'm pretty sure I'm going to wake up tomorrow with little round bruises all over my torso.

I didn't even answer this one. I couldn't come up with something with any semblance of tact whatsoever.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm in utter shock. I'm watching old Star Trek reruns..... and someone just died that wasn't a red shirt ensign.

We need an official "Fuck Off and Die Day." No real purpose, other than the running sentiment to be that as of it's namesake. I'm nominating today.

Indecency.

I ranted about this briefly in the Forum, but I think it warrants a full-blown journal rant.

I live right across the river from a town called Huntington, West Virginia. Huntington has a population of roughly 50,000, making it the second largest city in West Virginia.

Huntington is also the home of Marshall University, which was the subject of a movie released in December 2006, called "We Are Marshall."

The movie is about an actual event, a plane crashing while on approach to the local airport. All 75 people on board were killed.

The passengers on the plane were the Marshall Thundering Herd football team, the team's coaches, and a few other faculty and fans.

Only a few members of the team weren't on the flight, and one of the assistant coaches.

The movie is primarily about the rebuilding of the team the following year.

Marshall and West Virginia University have a very heated rivalry in NCAA football. Their game every year is a huge event, and always results in fans from both sides getting pretty rowdy. This year they played in Huntington. Marshall fans made shirts saying things like "Brokeback Mountaineers," and the Greek houses lining the road opposite the university were all flying huge banners expressing their feelings for WVU.

But, WVU fans took things one step too far this year. They started showing up at the stadium wearing shirts with an image of a plane crashing with the caption, "We WERE Marshall."

That, just disgusts me.

Funny how things can become so clear...

"Too bad I don't go to school. XD

...I hate school. x__x"

I believe it would be entirely safe to say that this person is seated very comfortably in Plato's cave, watching the shadows with wide-eyed rapture and vehemently and immaturely cursing the shadows playing in front of him, fully ignorant of the amusement this brings the puppeteers, who, having ascended beyond the cave to see the brilliance of the sun, easily predict the antics of their charges, toying with them as they know that this particular viewer is bound only by chains of his own making, and is oblivious to being in possession of the key to those locks. The puppeteers know this sort well. They need no bonds to hold them so riveted to the shadows on the wall that they never even think to ponder what lies beyond their peripheral vision. They hold themselves firm in the captivity of the darkness, afraid to look around and be forced to admit that their reality was truly such a narrow perspective. These sort fight ever more viciously against those returning from the sunlight, seeking to share the wonders of the truth, than even those whose bonds have been secured by outside forces. They seek to not only kill those who would help, but attempt to defame them to their fellow captives, and personally be the one to claim the glory of their slaughter.

However, his self-created bonds make for attacks of such short range and intellectuality, they fall far short of anything that can be considered a threat to those who have allowed themselves freedom.
